Ahlex the Aviation Hub for Learning & Experience at Brussels Airport has been awarded the 2025 ‘CBTA Center Innovation Award’ by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This prestigious recognition was granted for its innovative and immersive Dangerous Goods Experience. The award was officially announced today during the IATA World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in Dubai.

Since December 2024, Ahlex – the Aviation Hub for Learning & Experience – is the hub where the future of aviation takes flight through digital and immersive learning. Located in the heart of Brussels Airport, Ahlex drives talent development by offering next generation learning experiences that blend technology, innovation, and collaboration. Spanning 4,200 m², the facility features state-of-the-art training spaces, an inspiring Experience Center, and advanced immersive technologies – providing everything needed to shape the aviation industry of tomorrow.

Ahlex designs innovative training experiences at its Experience Center, redefining immersive learning. Programs include Airside Safety Awareness, Security Awareness, Airport Onboarding, Airport Job Discovery, Crisis Management and Sustainability. A highlight is the Dangerous Goods Experience, which immerses candidates in realistic, challenging situations to accelerate learning and improve retention in a safe environment – an approach that earned Ahlex the prestigious IATA Competency-Based Training & Assessment (CBTA) Center Innovation Award. This award recognises CBTA Center who’ve created a productive and positive learning environment by promoting innovation and developing new concepts that contribute to digitalization and sustainability.

The Dangerous Goods Experience

The award recognizes Ahlex for its groundbreaking approach to dangerous goods training. This immersive training solution includes 3D cargo simulations for both individual and group learning, tablet-based checklists, and large-scale wall and floor projections. The innovative setup enables trainees to apply theoretical knowledge in highly realistic, safety-critical scenarios – enhancing key competencies and boosting workforce readiness.

With dangerous goods playing an ever-larger role in cargo operations, it’s essential that training keeps pace with real-world demands. That’s why we created our Digital Training & Experience Center – to provide hands-on, immersive training that prepares professionals for complex, challenging environments,” said Isabelle Borli, General Manager at Ahlex. “Being awarded the IATA CBTA Center Innovation Award is a true honour and a recognition of our team’s dedication, creativity, and hard work. We’re proud to contribute to the evolution of aviation training. It affirms our mission to lead the way in digital, competency-based aviation training, and we’re proud to contribute to the evolution of the sector.

Launched in 2023, the IATA CBTA Center Innovation Awards encourage members of the CBTA Center network to develop solutions that strengthen operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability in the aviation industry.
