Basic first aid

Short summary

During this initiation course, participants are introduced to the basics of first aid. They learn how to react quickly and correctly to emergencies, such as unconsciousness, breathing problems and minor injuries. The focus is on practical skills and first-aid techniques that can be directly applied in the workplace. This half-day course is ideal for employees who need a first introduction to first aid. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Target Audience

All staff members designated by the employer to provide first aid while awaiting professional assistance.

Objectives

This course is tailored for individuals aspiring to serve as a company’s primary first aid responder.

Comprising a vital training program with a minimum duration of 15 teaching hours, it holds recognition from “FOD WASO” and is mandated by the RD of 15/12/10. The course equips first aid workers with the skills to administer immediate assistance to colleagues involved in accidents or experiencing sudden illness. Specifically crafted for employees responsible for coordinating first aid in the workplace, this intensive training, along with its accompanying refresher courses, imparts the necessary knowledge and skills to identify life-threatening medical conditions and apply first aid principles until specialized emergency personnel arrives.

Course content

1: Basic principles (3h)

• Role of emergency responders
• Instructions for using the available equipment
• Importance of registering incidents and actions
• Understanding the importance of hygiene to ‘first aid procedures’
• Accurate analysis of medical conditions and circumstances
• Making casualties comfortable prior to evacuation
• Relocation and evacuation of casualties

2: Support of vital functions (6h)

• First aid for unconscious casualties 
• Administering first aid to casualties with breathing difficulties
• Recognising casualties experiencing chest pain
• Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Basic resuscitation guidelines

• Recognising serious disorders
