Bringing education and aviation closer together

Students from three study programmes working together on real challenges in the aviation sector.

Together with Thomas More and UC Leuven-Limburg, AHLEX developed a semester-long project that brought students from Human Resources Management, Supply Chain Management and Tourism & Recreation Management closer to the reality of the aviation sector. Through multidisciplinary teamwork, expert input and practical exposure, students explored current and future challenges within the airport environment.

The project started with a joint kick-off at AHLEX, where the students were introduced to the aviation sector, the project goals and the different themes they could explore. A broader introduction to Brussels Airport gave them the context needed to understand the complexity of the airport ecosystem and the many stakeholders involved.

From there, students worked in multidisciplinary teams and developed their own research questions around themes such as passenger experience, employee well-being, workforce shortages, mobility, airport operations and digitalisation. Bringing together students from different study programmes encouraged them to look at the same challenge from multiple perspectives.

Throughout the semester, we organised a series of thematic sessions and encounters with professionals from the sector. Students will be able to connect their academic work with practical insights.

This combination of research, sector exposure and multidisciplinary collaboration will help students build a more realistic understanding of their own expertise within the aviation sector.

The project will conclude with final presentations at AHLEX, where the student teams present their research to the different partners involved.

It was great that the students were able to explore and experience the room for themselves, and on top of that there was a fun but effective brainstorming session.
