The customer challenge

Imec was looking for an engaging teambuilding experience for a group of 65 colleagues. With a group of this size, the challenge was to create an activity where everyone could participate actively without losing the interaction and energy of a smaller team experience.

The purpose

To bring colleagues together in an informal and engaging setting, using immersive technology to create shared experiences and encourage interaction across the group.

The approach

Together with teambuilding partner Tech4fun, AHLEX developed an immersive afternoon combining virtual reality and mixed reality experiences. To accommodate the large group, Tech4fun introduced a “tapas-style” concept with three different types of games, allowing participants to rotate between experiences throughout the activity.

The delivery

The 65 participants arrived at AHLEX at lunchtime, where a selection of sandwiches and salads was provided. After lunch, the group received a short walkthrough of the Digital Training & Experience Center before moving to the main hall for the teambuilding. The afternoon concluded with a reception including drinks and appetizers.

The outcome

The rotating format allowed a large group to discover different immersive experiences while keeping the afternoon dynamic and accessible. The combination of technology, hospitality and informal networking created a complete team experience, with highly positive feedback from imec on both the activities and the organization.

Bringing 65 Imec colleagues together through immersive technology

A large-scale teambuilding experience combining virtual and mixed reality, designed to keep 65 participants active, engaged and connected.

How do you create an interactive teambuilding experience for 65 people without turning participants into spectators?

That was the challenge when Imec brought 65 colleagues to AHLEX for an afternoon dedicated to connecting, experiencing and having fun together.

The experience started over lunch, with a selection of sandwiches and salads giving participants time to arrive and connect informally. Before the teambuilding itself, the group was introduced to AHLEX’s Digital Training & Experience Center through a short walkthrough, offering a glimpse into the immersive technologies available at the center.

From there, the group moved to AHLEX’s main hall, which was transformed into an immersive teambuilding environment together with our partner Tech4fun.

With 65 participants, a traditional single-activity format would have meant too much waiting and too little participation. Tech4fun therefore opted for a “tapas-style” approach: three different types of immersive games were available simultaneously, allowing participants to rotate between activities and experience different forms of virtual and mixed reality.

This setup kept the experience varied and gave participants the opportunity to interact with colleagues in different settings throughout the afternoon. From being fully immersed through VR headsets to experiences where virtual elements became part of the physical environment through mixed reality, technology provided a playful setting for shared experiences.

After the final rotations, the group came together again for a reception with drinks and appetizers, creating time to reconnect and exchange impressions from the afternoon.

For Imec, the result was more than a single teambuilding activity. By combining immersive technology, a flexible format and hospitality from arrival to reception, AHLEX and Tech4fun created a complete team experience adapted to the scale of the group.

For AHLEX, the event demonstrated how immersive technology can also be used beyond training: as a powerful way to bring large groups together, create shared experiences and turn a teambuilding into something participants can truly experience together.
