As part of an international leadership programme organised by BTS, KSIA wanted to connect leadership development with the realities of complex airport operations for a diverse group of professionals representing operational, technical and corporate functions across the organisation.
To complement the broader leadership journey with immersive aviation experiences, allowing participants to explore how leadership, collaboration and decision-making translate into practice in a complex airport environment.
AHLEX developed the aviation-focused part of the programme around experiential learning. Participants were challenged through an immersive crisis leadership exercise before exploring airport-wide collaboration, Total Airport Management (TAM) and real-world operations together with Airport Intelligence and Brussels Airport experts.
In July 2026, 22 KSIA professionals participated in the five-day leadership programme organised by BTS. AHLEX delivered an immersive crisis leadership experience and coordinated the airport-focused programme together with Airport Intelligence, combining training, expert exchanges and operational exposure at Brussels Airport.
The experience helped participants connect leadership principles with the operational realities of aviation. Feedback highlighted the value of collaboration, communication and decision-making in complex situations, as well as the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into how different airport stakeholders work together.
An immersive aviation experience for 22 KSIA professionals, connecting leadership and disruption management with real-world airport operations.
In July 2026, AHLEX welcomed 22 professionals from King Salman International Airport (KSIA) as part of an international leadership programme organised by BTS. The programme combined leadership development with disruption management and real-world exposure to the complexity of airport operations.
The group brought together professionals from a wide range of operational, technical and corporate functions, from airport operations and master planning to human capital, digital, finance and airline partnerships. This diversity created an ideal setting to explore how decisions and priorities across different airport functions are interconnected.
AHLEX complemented the broader leadership journey with immersive aviation experiences designed to translate leadership principles into an operational airport context. At the Digital Training Center, participants took part in an immersive crisis leadership exercise based on a realistic disruption scenario. Working under pressure challenged them to look beyond their own areas of expertise, share information effectively and make decisions while considering the wider airport ecosystem.
The experience then moved from simulation to real-world airport operations. Together with Airport Intelligence, AHLEX coordinated a dedicated programme exploring Total Airport Management (TAM), the Airport Operations Centre (APOC), Airport Operations Planning (AOP) and stakeholder management. Expert exchanges, demonstrations and discussions provided additional perspectives on how collaboration, information sharing and forecasting support coordinated airport decision-making.
The programme culminated in a visit to the Airport Operations Centre (APOC) at Brussels Airport. This gave participants firsthand insight into how different airport stakeholders coordinate operations, share information and work together to support safe, efficient and resilient airport operations.
By moving from leadership development to simulation and real-world airport exposure, the programme created a strong connection between theory and practice. It encouraged participants to step outside their own areas of expertise, understand operational interdependencies and approach the airport as one interconnected ecosystem.
By integrating immersive aviation learning into BTS’s broader leadership journey, AHLEX helped connect leadership concepts with operational reality while providing participants with a broader perspective on collaboration and decision-making in a complex airport environment.
