Short summary

This course provides flight crews with the essential knowledge to safely transport dangerous goods by air, following ICAO’s competency-based training requirements, which mandate both training and assessment for anyone involved in handling dangerous goods.

Target Audience

Those involved in the transport of dangerous goods by air must complete training and assessment based on the function(s) they perform every 2 years.

This course is designed for flight crew members (other than cabin or other crew members) (Function 7.7 – previously CAT 10).

Objectives

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Become familiar with the legal requirements for dangerous goods, restrictions, proper handling and storage, labelling, marking and documentation rules.
  • Understand that some items may endanger the safety of the aircraft or persons board, and the carriage of these dangerous goods by air may be either prohibited or restricted.
  • Identify hidden dangerous goods in cargo, mail, and passenger baggage.
  • Understand, explain, and apply the basic procedures in the event of an incident or emergency involving dangerous goods.
