Summary

This training provides ramp handling personnel with the essential knowledge and skills required to perform ground operations safely and efficiently in an airport environment. Participants will gain an understanding of aircraft handling processes, airside operations, safety principles, and the coordination required between the different stakeholders involved in aircraft turnaround activities.

The course covers key safety and security principles, ground handling procedures, the use of Ground Service Equipment (GSE), communication practices, and dangerous goods awareness. Participants will also become familiar with essential procedures related to aircraft arrival, departure, and ground servicing activities.

Target Audience

This course is intended for ramp handling personnel involved in the handling, loading and transportation of dangerous goods in the airport environment.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Understand the airport airside environment, ground operations framework, and the role of different stakeholders involved in aircraft handling
• Identify aircraft characteristics and understand their impact on ground handling operations
• Apply safe working practices when using Ground Service Equipment (GSE) and performing ramp activities
• Understand aircraft turnaround processes, including arrival, departure, baggage handling, cleaning, catering, fueling, and other ground services
• Apply fundamental safety and security principles and follow standard operating procedures during aircraft handling tasks
• Recognise the impact of various weather conditions and understand the BRU apron warning system
• Identify and classify dangerous goods and understand the applicable requirements regarding labelling, packaging, storage, and emergency response procedures
• Use appropriate communication systems and follow established communication procedures

Additional information

The training includes advanced scenario discussions based on real airport operational challenges and interactive exchanges with experienced airport operational professionals.

Practical ramp duties should only be performed after the required equipment-specific instruction, supervised practice, and workplace assessment.
