IATA Dangerous Goods – Radioactive Module – Basic 7.1 & 7.3

Summary

This additional module provides the knowledge required to prepare, process or accept shipments containing radioactive materials in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). Participants will learn the specific requirements for the classification, packaging, marking, labelling, documentation and handling of radioactive materials. The module also covers the associated risks, safety measures and emergency procedures to support the safe and compliant transport of radioactive materials.

Target Audience

This training is mandatory for all cargo personnel responsible for accepting and shipping radioactive material by air transport.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) relevant to the transport of radioactive materials.
• Prepare, process or accept shipments containing radioactive materials in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Verify that shipments comply with the applicable packaging, marking, labelling and documentation requirements.
• Contribute to the safe and compliant transport of radioactive materials.

Additional information

The course concludes with an examination. Minimum score of 80% requested.

This module can only be followed in combination with a basic Dangerous Goods training course. 

Participants need to hold a valid IATA certificate:

• 7.1 Function: Personnel Responsible for Preparing Dangerous Goods Consignments
• or 7.3 Function: Personnel Responsible for Processing or Accepting Dangerous

English language proficiency is recommended, as all training materials are provided in English.

Since 2002, I’ve been a certified IATA Dangerous Goods trainer and continue to teach in schools and industry. I now focus on CBTA-based training in dangerous goods — especially radioactives — while staying active in the field. Every role I’ve held reflects my commitment to safety, compliance, and knowledge-sharing in air cargo logistics.
