Aviation Business Criticals

Summary

The Aviation Business Criticals course provides participants with a broad foundation in the essential safety and security principles required in an airport environment.

Over two days, participants explore Human Factors and Just Culture, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Airside Safety, and Security Awareness. Through practical examples, interactive discussions and immersive learning, they develop the knowledge and awareness needed to recognise risks and contribute to safe, secure and efficient airport operations.

• Contractors and service providers operating in an airport environment
• Supervisors and support personnel with safety, security or operational responsibilities
• Newcomers and employees requiring a broad foundation in aviation safety and security

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Explain the fundamental principles of aviation safety and security
• Recognise how Human Factors influence safety and operational performance
• Explain the principles and importance of Just Culture
• Understand the purpose and basic principles of a Safety Management System (SMS)
• Identify hazards and understand basic safety risk management
• Recognise common airside hazards and apply safe operating principles
• Understand key airside rules, markings and infrastructure
• Recognise common threats to civil aviation and understand security responsibilities
• Apply appropriate safety and security reporting procedures
• Contribute to a proactive safety and security culture

Course content

• Human Factors, human performance and Just Culture
• Safety Management Systems (SMS), hazard identification and risk management
• Airside safety, traffic rules, infrastructure and FOD prevention
• Aviation security, threats, responsibilities and incident reporting
• Practical examples, scenarios and interactive exercises

The programme consists of four complementary half-day modules covering Human Factors and Just Culture, SMS, Airside Safety and Security Awareness.

Additional information

The training is delivered partially using the Digital Training Experience Center, where immersive technology and interactive tools create a realistic, engaging, and practice-oriented learning environment. 

The training includes advanced scenario discussions based on real airport operational challenges and interactive exchanges with experienced airport operational professionals.
