Practical Image Interpretation Training – 11.2.3.2 (C2) & 11.2.3.3 (C3)

Summary

The Practical Image Interpretation Training develops the skills required to accurately interpret images produced by security screening equipment. The training is aligned with EU Regulation 2015/1998, Articles 11.2.3.2 and 11.2.3.3.

Through practical exercises using representative security images, participants learn to recognise prohibited articles, identify suspicious objects and analyse complex images. The course focuses on systematic image interpretation, effective use of screening equipment functions and appropriate security decision-making when screening cargo, mail and supplies.

Target Audience

This training is intended for personnel responsible for interpreting security images when screening cargo, mail and supplies, including:

• Personnel screening cargo and mail under Article 11.2.3.2
• Personnel screening air carrier mail and materials under Article 11.2.3.3
• Personnel screening in-flight and airport supplies
• Security personnel operating X-ray, EDS or other image-producing screening equipment

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Systematically analyse images produced by security screening equipment
• Recognise objects, materials and potential prohibited articles
• Identify suspicious components, anomalies and concealed objects
• Interpret complex images involving different positions, orientations and overlapping objects
• Use relevant image-analysis functions of screening equipment
• Make appropriate security decisions based on image interpretation
• Apply the correct procedures when an image cannot be cleared with certainty

Image interpretation forms part of the applicable initial certification or approval requirements for X-ray and EDS operators.
