Airside Safety Awareness – Immersive Experience – DTEC

Summary

This interactive training provides airport personnel and employees of related companies with the knowledge, skills, and appropriate mindset required to work safely and responsibly airside at Brussels Airport. Through realistic simulations, immersive learning, interactive touch tables, and gamification, participants learn to identify risks, apply safety rules correctly, report incidents, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

The training places particular emphasis on common hazards such as Foreign Object Debris (FOD), unsafe vehicle use, jet blast, propeller wash, and engine intake zones. It also covers access control, personal protective equipment, traffic rules, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.

Through practical exercises and collaboration, participants are encouraged to take responsibility, proactively report unsafe situations, and contribute to a strong airside safety culture.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Explain the main principles and rules of airside safety.
• Identify the different airside zones and access requirements.
• Identify and assess common risks and hazards, including Foreign Object Debris (FOD).
• Apply safety and traffic rules correctly.
• Work safely in the vicinity of aircraft, vehicles, and ground-support equipment.
• Recognize the risks associated with jet blast, propeller wash, and engine intake zones.
• Use personal protective equipment correctly.
• Identify and report unsafe situations, incidents, and violations.
• Respond appropriately to incidents and emergency situations.
• Work collaboratively and actively contribute to a proactive safety culture.
