IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations for Handling and Loading Personnel – 7.4 E-learning

Summary

The IATA DGR 7.4 training provides personnel involved in the handling, storage, loading, and unloading of cargo with the knowledge and practical competencies required to work safely with dangerous goods.

The course introduces the fundamental principles of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and teaches participants how to recognize dangerous goods, interpret hazard information, detect hidden dangerous goods, and apply the correct procedures before and during aircraft loading.

Particular attention is given to safe cargo handling, segregation, inspection, storage, loading and unloading procedures, incident reporting, and emergency response. The training follows a competency-based training and assessment approach, focusing on the tasks and responsibilities participants perform in their operational roles.

Target Audience

• Operator’s and ground handling agent’s staff involved in the handling, storage, and loading of cargo or mail and baggage (ramp staff).

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Explain the fundamental principles and regulatory framework governing the transport of dangerous goods by air.
• Recognize and identify dangerous goods.
• Identify the main classes of dangerous goods and their associated hazards.
• Interpret dangerous goods markings, labels, and hazard information.
• Recognize potential hidden dangerous goods in cargo, mail, stores, and baggage.
• Describe the appropriate procedures for handling and storing dangerous goods.
• Explain the checks required for cargo and Unit Load Devices before loading.
• Describe the pre-loading procedures applicable to dangerous goods.
• Explain the principles for the safe handling, transport, loading, and unloading of cargo and baggage.
• Recognize damaged, leaking, or improperly prepared packages.
• Explain the relevant segregation requirements and loading restrictions.
• Describe the procedures for reporting dangerous goods accidents, incidents, and irregularities.
• Explain the basic emergency response procedures related to dangerous goods.
• Understand the responsibilities associated with their assigned dangerous goods functions and the applicable procedures.
